Youkai (pronounced YOH-kai) is a general category of strange or grotesque beings in Japan. Often translated as "demon" or "goblin", it usually encompasses a group of creatures that is more supernatural and ethereal than kaijuu, or monsters, and derived from less human origins than yuurei, or ghosts.
