A Gryphon is a large monster, widespread in Western myths and art, possessing the body of a lion and the head and sometimes feet of an eagle - although Egyptian variations are often more falcon-like. Sometimes they have a snake-like tail as well. They are notoriously fond of eating horses, although occasionally this passion will turn from a predatory one to a romantic one, producing an offspring called a hippogryph.
